Your hernia repair can have a bigger impact than you think. With the help of clinical research, you could play a role in increasing our understanding of how to treat hernias.
You may be able to participate in the Hernia Repair Study if you:
Are 18 to 80 years old
Have an abdominal hernia that requires open surgical repair
Have intact abdominal wall muscles as determined by a CT scan
If you are interested in participating, the study doctor or staff will review additional study criteria with you.
Eligible study participants will receive all study-related medication (the investigational product or placebo) at no cost. Reimbursement may be provided for study-related travel expenses.
Hernias occur when part of an organ protrudes through your muscle wall, usually in your abdomen or groin. If this happens at the front wall of your abdomen, it's called a ventral hernia.
Ventral hernias may or may not be symptomatic.
This type of hernia often presents as a swelling over the abdomen.
Ventral hernias are more common overall in women.
Risk factors can include obesity, heavy weight lifting, a history of chronic cough, constipation, and smoking.1
