About the
Hernia Repair Study

The Hernia Repair Study will evaluate whether an investigational product (a medication not approved for clinical use) can help minimize potential complications of hernia repair surgery.

About the Study

The research study will involve 7 in-person visits over the course of 20 weeks and 6 follow-up phone calls every 4 months after the surgery. If your responses during follow-up phone calls suggest that a hernia may have returned, the study doctor or staff may ask you to come back for an additional visit.

Eligible study participants will receive either the investigational product or a placebo (a substance that looks like the investigational product but contains no active ingredients). Approximately 200 participants will be enrolled, and they may be reimbursed for study-related travel expenses.

About Clinical Research

Clinical research studies seek to advance and improve treatment options for a variety of conditions, including hernias. They are designed to answer questions about the safety and effectiveness of potential new medications.

Quick Facts

Clinical research studies must be performed before a new medication or treatment can be approved for use and made available to the public.
There are common traits that people must have to participate in a research study, called eligibility criteria. Common criteria include age, sex, medical history, and other medical conditions.
Right now, there are more than 500,000 research studies registered around the world.1
Many conditions affect diverse groups of people, so it is important to have diverse groups of people participating in research. Different people may respond differently to treatments.
